CALCULATING THE VOLUME OF A POND:

Square or Rectangle Pond

Length x Width x Depth (all in metres) x 1000 = Litres

Eg: 2.4m x 1.2m x 0.45m = 1.296 x 1000 = 1296 litres

Round Pond

Pi (3.141) x D2 x H x .25

For shaped ponds use the average length x width x depth then reduce the total by 20-30% to allow for curves and varying depths. Better to over estimate volume.

CALCULATING HOW MUCH TREATMENT TO USE:

You will need to check the label of the treatment you have purchased to find out how much treatment they are recommending per litres. For example, we have a popular product called Algaefix. On the label of a bottle of Algaefix they say to use 5ml of treatment for every 200 litres of water. What we need to do is divide 5 by 200 to find out how many millilitres we need per litre of water.

5 ÷ 200 = 0.025

The next step is to find out how many litres is in your pond. Above is the equation to figure this out. Once you have this you can times 0.025 by the amount of litres in your pond. For example, lets say I have a 900 litre pond.

0.025 x 900 = 22.5

This means I would need to dose my pond with 22.5mls of treatment.

PIPE SIZING / FLOW RATES:

The longer the tube length the larger the diameter required. If tubing needs to run more than three or four meters from pump to outlet, use the next size up to reduce friction loss.
