The Golden Algae Eaters have a striking golden/yellow colouration that is sure to stand out in your aquarium. The range of colouring depends on a number of factors - aquarium condition, lighting and food. Algae Eaters should be provided with plenty of decorations such as rocks, caves, driftwood and plants – with plenty of space to grow too! We would recommend at least a 75L tank.
Algae Eaters are a great community fish and are not known to be aggressive towards other species. They can become semi-aggressive towards their own kind when kept together. This is because one will generally become dominant over the others and they can get protected over territory. During Winter, Algae Easters will need a heated tank – temperatures between 22°C - 26°C.
Feeding: Golden Algae Eaters are an ideal aquarium fish as they are fantastic for eating a wide variety of algae species. Diet should be supplemented with Algae Wafers. Zucchini slices and Spinach are good treats for them too. They are great fish for planted aquariums as they will eat live plants without too much damage.
Reproduction: There isn’t a lot of information on Algae Eater reproduction requirements as they rarely spawn in home aquariums. They are commercially bred.
Gender Differences: Females tend to be plumper than the Males.
