Calcium carbonate is a naturally occurring compound widely used in pond management to enhance water quality and maintain ecological balance. It serves as an effective liming agent, helping to neutralize acidic conditions and stabilise pH levels, which is essential for the health of aquatic organisms. By increasing the alkalinity (carbonate hardness) of pond water, calcium carbonate improves the water’s buffering capacity, allowing it to resist sudden pH fluctuations that can stress or harm fish.

In addition to pH regulation, calcium carbonate plays a vital role in enhancing the availability of essential nutrients, which supports the growth of beneficial bacteria. This, in turn, promotes a more productive and balanced ecosystem.
